Zonarcom 3™ is a Win32 system tray application (the tray is located in the lower right corner of the 'Start' menu bar). The purpose of ZonarCom 3™ is to communicate and transfer data with the Zonar 2010 handheld reader. Data received from the 2010 handheld reader is then transferred to a customer-specific database.
Before the ZonarCom 3™ application may be installed onto a computer system, the user logged into the computer must have 'Administrative' or 'Power User' privileges. This is required to create the folder structure necessary for the ZonarCom 3™ application to run.

To install ZonarCom 3™, perform the following steps:
- Click on the link above to go to our software download page, and click the "Click
Here To Download Zonarcom 3..." link provided there to download the software installation
package. In
Microsoft Internet
Explorer, a 'File Download - Security Warning' dialog will display the following
options:

- Run - By clicking on this option the installer will be downloaded to a temporary file location, and then prompt the user to install the application.
- Save - By clicking on this option, a dialog will be displayed allowing the user to navigate to the folder location for which the file is to be saved. Once the file is saved the user will need to navigate to the saved folder location and double click on the zonarcom3.msi file to begin installation.
- Cancel - By clicking on this option the download process will abort and installation will not occur.
We will use the 'Run' option for describing installation in this manual.

- When the downloaded installer is executed (run), the ZonarCom 3™ Setup Wizard will guide the user through the installation process. Click on the 'Next' button to continue installation or the 'Cancel' button to abort the installation process.

- The setup wizard will now display a screen which allows the user to view the End User License Agreement (EULA). This EULA must be accepted before the Wizard will continue. If you do not wish to accept any of the terms of the EULA, you may hit the Cancel button to cancel installation of the software. If you accept the terms of the EULA and agree to be bound by the terms set forth therein, indicate your acceptance by checking the checkbox indicating so. Click on the 'Next' button to continue with the installation process, click on the 'Back' button to back up to the previous screen, or click on the 'Cancel' button to abort the installation process.

- The setup wizard will now display a screen which allows the user to chose a folder in which to install ZonarCom 3™. It is strongly recommend that the default setting be used, as other Zonar programs also default to the same parent folder (C:\Program Files\zonar). If desired, however, you may use the 'Browse...' button to navigate through the system's directories and select the desired path. Click on the 'Next' button to continue with the installation process, click on the 'Back' button to back up to the previous screen, or click on the 'Cancel' button to abort the installation process.

- The setup wizard will now display a screen which allows the user to chose a Start Menu folder for the ZonarCom 3™ program shortcuts for starting the program and for the uninstaller. If you do not wish to have the program placed on the Start Menu Programs list, you may check the "Do Not Create Shortcuts" checkbox, and the installer will not create these shortcuts. Click on the 'Next' button to continue with the installation process, click on the 'Back' button to back up to the previous screen, or click on the 'Cancel' button to abort the installation process.

- The setup wizard will now display a screen which allows the user to
chose update options. If updates to ZonarCom 3™ should be allowed to
be installed when normal users (ie. non-admin users) are logged onto
the machine, then the "Allow regular users to update software (recommended)"
checkbox should be checked (default). If you would like to prevent the
software from being updated, uncheck this option. If this is unchecked,
the software will not update itself, and users will not
receive any notification of updates being available. In order to update
the software, an admin user will need to manually select the "Check
for Update" option from the software's main menu.
If "Update software automatically with no user interaction (recommended)" is checked, ZonarCom 3™ will attempt to update itself when a new version is available. The user will not be prompted to update, and the update will only be attempted when the user is not interacting with the software directly. If updates by regular users are disabled, then the auto-update of the software will only succeed when an administrative or power-user is logged on.
Click on the 'Install' button to install the software with the selected options, click on the 'Back' button to back up to the previous screen, or click on the 'Cancel' button to abort the installation process.

- Once installation is complete, the setup wizard will display a screen stating whether the installation process was completed successfully. Click on the 'Close' button to exit the installer.

- There should now be a ZonarCom 3™ shortcut icon displayed on the Windows desktop:

The installer will automatically execute ZonarCom 3™ at this point. If this is the first time ZonarCom 3™ has ever been run on this computer, the Configuration Settings dialog will be displayed.

The RDS is a custom designed cradle used for communication with, and charging the Zonar 2010 handheld reader. Connect the RDS serial cable to the computer system that will be running the ZonarCom 3™ software application. Plug in the power supply to the RDS as well as a power outlet. Turn on a 2010 handheld unit and place it in the RDS, after 4 seconds the 'Green' charge light on the 2010 handheld will illuminate, if this light does not come on, check the power supplied to the RDS. There is an LED light on the RDS cradle itself, this is used to indicate when communication between the ZonarCom 3™ software application and the 2010 is taking place, 'Red' means communication is occurring and the 2010 should not be disturbed during this time, when communication is complete the light will change to 'Green' meaning it's safe to remove the 2010 handheld from the RDS.

The EVIRNET™ system is a wireless enhancement to the Basic EVIR® system. EVIRNET™ allows a Microsoft® Windows® computer workstation running ZonarCom 3™ to communicate with one or more 2010™ RFID handheld readers "over the air". An EVIRNET™ Base Station (EBS) and one or more EVIRNET™ Vehicle Mounts (EVM) makes up the EVIRNET™ system.
