2.0 User Interface

zAlert is a system tray application for Microsoft Windows. The user interface is accessed through a menu, which you access by right-clicking with your mouse on the zAlert system tray icon.

The zAlert system tray icon has different states, which are represented by different colored icons:


Normal operation.
Normal operation, active alerts.
Data refresh from Internet in progress.
"No Popup" enabled, no alerts.
"No Popup" enabled, active alerts.
Offline (check user settings)
Shutting Down

The main alert dialog will pop up automatically whenever an alert occurs (if No Popup is not checked), or it can be accessed at any time by left-clicking the zAlert tray icon.

Options:

  • Active Alerts (section)
    • Server Time (section)
      • Shows the time at the Zonar server. This time is used for all alert decisions. It is accurate time, regardless of the time at the PC on which it is running.
    • Alert message for selected asset (text)
      • When an alert is selected in the alert list, shows the reason for the alert.
    • Alert list (list box)
      • Shows all the alerts that are currently active. Any alerts that have been "snoozed" do not show up in this list until they wake back up. To view the details for any alert, select it with your mouse.
    • Clear (button)
      • Enabled only when one or more alerts are selected. When clicked, permanently clears the selected alert(s).
    • Remind again in [_______] (combo box)
      • Enabled only when one or more alerts are selected. Allows the user to select how long the selected alert(s) should snooze when the snooze button is pressed.
    • Snooze (button)
      • Enabled only when one or more alerts are selected. When clicked, causes the selected alert(s) to be temproarily removed from the list for the amount of time selected in the "Remind again in ..." combo box. Once the snooze time expires for the selecte alert(s), the alert sound will again sound (if enabled), the strobe will flash (if enabled) and the alert(s) will again show up in the active alert list.
    • Strobe (button)
      • Enabled only when when an optional strobe light is connected, and the strobe light is enabled in the Configuration Settings. When clicked, toggles the strobe light off if it is on, and toggles it on if it is off. The strobe light will go off automatically when all alerts are cleared from the active alert list above.
    • Details (button)
      • Shows or hides the "Selected Alert Details" section of the dialog.
  • Selected Alert Details (section)
    • When only one alert is selected in the active alert list above, displays the detail items for the selected alert.
      NOTE: The "Secondary Inspection:" section will only display if a secondary pre- or post-trip inspection configuration is selected in the Alert Settings dialog.

2.1 About...


Right-click the zAlert tray icon and select the 'About...' menu option.

Information about the currently installed version of zAlert will be displayed.

  • Application Folder: The path to the folder where zAlert is currently installed (hot link, click path to open folder in Windows® Explorer).
  • Data Folder: The path to the folder where settings, reports and logs are stored (hot link, click path to open folder in Windows® Explorer).
  • Platform: The name, version and service pack levels of the version of Windows® that zAlert is running on.

2.2 Help

To start this online help, right-click on the zAlert tray icon and select the 'Help...' menu option.

This will start your default browser and load the online help system from our server.

2.3 Check For Update

If you wish to check for an update for manually, right-click on the icon and select the 'Check For Update...' menu option.

Follow the wizard step-by-step through the update process.

Important: In order for the 'Check For Update...' menu option to be enabled the currently logged in user must have 'Administrative' or 'Power User' privileges.

2.4 Send Support Info (Msg, Logs)...

If problems develop and you would like assistance from Zonar Systems, right-click the zAlert tray icon, and select the 'Send Support Info (Msg, Logs)...' option.

You must enter a contact name and phone number (extension is optional) in order to enable the "SEND NOW" button. In the lower edit box, enter a detailed message. If you wish to send a message without attaching the log files, uncheck the checkbox as directed in the dialog. If you do send logs, please indicate specific details about why the logs are being sent. When you are ready to send, click on the 'SEND NOW' button. If you wish to cancel sending the message/logs, click on the 'DON'T SEND' button. No system sensitive information is transmitted during this process.

2.5.0 Configuration

Right click over the zAlert tray icon and select 'Settings -> Configuration...'.

A dialog will be displayed allowing various configuration settings to be customized.

Options:

  • User Information (section)
    • Customer: (required)
      • The customer id issued to you by Zonar Systems, LLC.
    • User Name: (required)
      • A user with INTERFACE and SHOWOPEN permissions in the targeted EVIRSOFT database.
    • Password: (required)
      • The password for the specified user name.
    • Location: (required)
      • Location of the PC running this application.
    • Messaging Addr.:
      • An email-type address (user@domain.com) that will receive a notification message on alerts.
  • Software Settings (section)
    • Load At Windows Start
      • Check this option to have the zAlert application start when a user logs in, leave this option unchecked to not have the application start when a user logs in.
    • Enable Alert Sounds
      • Play an audible alerts based when alerts occur in the software. Uncheck this option if no audible alerts are desired.

        • Play sound on each alert
          • Play an audible alert notification every time an alert occurs.
        • Play alert reminder sound (every [_____] minutes)
          • Play an audible alert notification only if a new alert is not viewed (selected in the alert list of the alert dialog) within the interval specified, and play a reminder at that interval thereafter until any alert is viewed (selected from the list) in the dialog.
    • Enable Strobe Light
      • Enable the (optional) external strobe light. When enabled, the strobe light will blink whenever a new alert comes in, or when a snoozing alert wakes up.

          • Select the comm port that you have connected the external strobe light to.
        • Test (button)
          • Test making the strobe light blink on the port currently selected in the combo box.
    • Use HTTP proxy
      • If a proxy server is used, this section is used to enter in the necessary information. Consult your IT department to determine if you are behind a proxy.
  • Loc. Filters (n) (button)
    • If locations are available to select from, this will bring up the Location Filter dialog, which allows you to only watch assets from certain locations. The button displays the current number of locations the user has selected in the () on the button.
  • Alert Settings (button)
    • If a customer code, user and password has been applied, this will bring up the Alert Settings dialog, which will allow the user to configure which alerts to enable (pre- and/or post-trip), as well as the time limits and valid configurations for each.
  • Store Config (button)
    • Store the current configuration dialog settings, location filter dialog settings and alert settings dialog settings, and exit the dialog. If customer, user, password or any proxy settings have changed, you will be asked if you want to test the new settings. If you select "Yes", zAlert will attempt to send a test query to the server and check for a successful response.
  • Cancel (button)
    • Exit the dialog, and discard all changes (including any changes made in the location filters or the alert settings dialog boxes). After you "Store Settings" or "Apply" the settings, the "Cancel" button is renamed to "Close". Once settings are stored, there is no way to cancel or undo them.
  • Apply (button)
    • This button acts the same as the "Store Config" button, except that it does not exit the dialog after all settings are stored.

2.5.0.1 Location Filters


When you select the 'Loc. Filters' button in the Configuration Settings dialog, the 'Location Filter' dialog appears. Under "Filter on asset locations:", the locations of all assets with EVIRNET™ vehicle mounts will be displayed. You may select one or more locations to filter on, then hit the "Store" button. When no locations are selected, assets for all locations are monitored for alerts. If any locations are selected, then only assets from those locations are monitored for alerts.

2.5.0.2 Alert Settings


When you select the 'Alert Settings' button in the Configuration Settings dialog, the 'Alert Settings' dialog appears.

Options:

  • Pre-trip Alerts (checkbox/section)
    • When checked, enables pre-trip alerts, and enables the controls for configuring pre-trip alerts
    • Time limit (minutes): (text)
      • The number of minutes in which an asset is required to have a pre-trip inspection before leaving.
    • Select Pre-trip Configs: (listbox)
      • Shows a list of all inspection configurations. Select one or more configurations that are considered "pre-trip" configurations for alerts. zAlert will require inspections from the selected config(s), generating alerts when no inspection matching the selected config(s) was performed within the time allowed before leaving. If 'Pre-trip Alerts' is checked, at least one inspection configuration must be selected for pre-trip alert checks..
    • Secondary Insp. Config.: (drop-down listbox)
      • Allows for the selection of a secondary pre-trip inspection configuration. If a secondary pre-trip inspection configuration is selected, then an asset must have two pre-trip inspections -- a primary inspection from any of the selected configurations in the "Select Pre-trip Configs" list, as well as a second inspection by a differerent driver, and that second inspection must be from the selected secondary pre-trip inspection configuration.
    • Process pre-trip alerts only between (checkbox)
      • When checked, enables processing of and alerting for only asset out-of-yard events that occur during the time interval specified in the time selection controls. Out-of-yard events and any associated pre-trip alerts are ignored outside the specified time interval. The pre-trip time interval controls are only enabled when this option is checked.
    • Alert if asset OUT in RED condition (checkbox)
      • When checked, enables alerts for assets that go out while the asset status is RED (has an unrepaired RED defect).
  • Post-trip Alerts (checkbox/section)
    • When checked, enables post-trip alerts, and enables the controls for configuring post-trip alerts
    • Time limit (minutes): (text)
      • The number of minutes in which an asset is required to have a post-trip inspection after returning.
    • Select Post-trip Configs: (listbox)
      • Shows a list of all inspection configurations. Select one or more configurations that are considered "post-trip" configurations for alerts. zAlert will require inspections from the selected config(s), generating alerts when no inspection matching the selected config(s) was performed within the time allowed after an asset returns. If 'Post-trip Alerts' is checked, at least one inspection configuration must be selected for post-trip alert checks.
    • Secondary Insp. Config.: (drop-down listbox)

  • Alert on manual inspection (checkbox)
    • When checked, enables alerts for inspections that have one or more manually entered zones (ie. a zone for which a tag was not scanned, but the operator manually entered the information for the inspection of that zone).
  • Alert on incomplete inspection (checkbox)
    • When checked, enables alerts for incomplete inspections (inspections with one or more missing zones).

2.6 Alerts Always On Top


To cause the alert dialog to stay on top of all other non-top-most windows on the screen, right-click on the zAlert tray icon and select the 'Alerts Always On Top' menu option.

With this option checked, the alert dialog will stay "on top" of the other applications that are running.

2.7 No Popup


To prevent the alert dialog from popping up when an alert occurs, right-click on the zAlert tray icon and select the 'No Popup' menu option.

This will change the tray icon to and the alert dialog will not pop up while this menu is checked.

2.8 Exit


To exit zAlert, right-click on the zAlert tray icon and select the 'Exit' menu option.
